    • 1). Climb up a ladder and inspect the fascia boards installed under the eave. Measure the distance from the inside of the lip on the J-channel to the edge of the fascia board on the outside of the house. Repeat the measurement for several different locations.

    • 2). Measure and mark the distance down each soffit panel. Line up a T-square and draw a straight line across the T-square at the cut location. Cut along the line with tin snips and repeat the process for the number of pieces of soffit needed to cover all of the fascia board.

    • 3). Slip the first piece of soffit into the J-channel with the groove side of the soffit facing the direction of installation. Hammer in 1 1/2-inch soffit nails through the soffit and into the fascia board underneath. Insert the nails into the V-grooves in the soffit spaced out every 8 inches.

    • 4). Slip the corner of the tongues of the second panel into the grooves of the first panel and insert the side against the wall into the J-channel as in the previous step. Install the second piece just as the first was installed and continue around the eave of the house until all of the soffit is installed.

    • 5). Examine each soffit panel and verify they are securely locked between the J-channel. Hammer in extra nails if there are any pieces sagging.
