- 1). Download a RAR password-recovery program. A few free and for-cost programs are available online. These programs employ either a brute-force attack, where it tries every possible word and letter combination in quick succession, or a dictionary-attack approach, where it tests a long list of words.
- 2). Install the recovery program.
- 3). Select the target RAR archive in the program. Run the program and wait. It will test hundreds of combinations per second until it finds the lost password.
