How to Wire the DB9 Serial Cable
- 1). Cut four centimeters off the protective jacket covering from each end of the data cable using a wire stripping tool. Cut off one centimeter of the protective covering from the ends of the nine wires protruding from the data cable.
- 2). Plug the soldering iron into a power source and wait five minutes for the soldering iron to heat up. Remove the screws on the connector covers and disassemble the covers.
- 3). Connect and solder each wire from inside the data cable to one pin on the back of the DB9 female connector. The number corresponding to each pin can be found written in small font next to each pin on the back of the DB9 female connector.
- 4). Connect the other ends of the wires to the pins on the back of the DB9 male connector in the following order:
DB9 male wire pin 1 to DB9 female pin 1
DB9 male wire pin 2 to DB9 female pin 3
DB9 male wire pin 3 to DB9 female pin 2
DB9 male wire pin 4 to DB9 female pin 6
DB9 male wire pin 5 to DB9 female pin 5
DB9 male wire pin 6 to DB9 female pin 4
DB9 male wire pin 7 to DB9 female pin 8
Solder the wires to the pins. Confirm that solder on each pin is not in contact with other pins or metal. - 5). Set the covers in place on each connector. Insert and then tighten the screws to secure the covers.
