How to Eliminate Peat Moss
- 1). Spray down the peat moss with a moss killer that contains ferrous sulfate placed into a 10-gallon pressurized spray bottle. Avoid spraying any concrete surfaces, as the spray will stain the concrete. Spraying should be done in the fall just before the first winter frosts.
- 2). Rake away the dead peat moss in the spring after the snow melts. Place all the moss into bags for disposal. Alternatively, you can dry out the moss and use it as a soil enhancer.
- 3). Eliminate the source of the moisture that causes the moss to form. Some common ways to eliminate pooled water include french drains or thirsty trees.
- 4). Plant a thick grass such as fescue or rye. This prevents any other moss from growing in the area.
