How to Sprout Filbert Seeds
- 1). Collect seed when the edges of the husks begin to turn brown. This is typically in late summer.
- 2). Spread the seeds out in a single layer indoors to finish drying.
- 3). Remove the husks as soon as they have turned completely brown.
- 4). Plant the seeds outdoors at a depth of twice the seed diameter. Planting must be done in the fall, because the seeds require 2--6 months of chilling temperatures before germination will occur. The seeds will sprout in the spring.
