How to Open a Toshiba U300
- 1). Power down your laptop. Close the display panel and disconnect all cables from the computer. Place the laptop face down on a flat surface with the front edge facing toward you. Remove the battery pack from its compartment along the top edge of the laptop's bottom side.
- 2). Remove the hard drive compartment cover and its two retaining Phillips screws from the laptop's lower right corner. Slide the hard drive to the right to disconnect it from the motherboard. Remove the hard drive from the laptop.
- 3). Remove the large wireless card and memory module cover from the center of the laptop. This cover is secured in place by four Phillips screws.
- 4). Locate the two memory modules inside the compartment. Spread the retaining clips on each side of either memory module. Tilt each module upward at an angle, and pull each module from its respective memory slot.
- 5). Use a pair of tweezers to disconnect the three antenna cables from the wireless card in the upper left corner of the compartment. Remove the two Phillips screws securing the wireless card to its socket. Carefully remove the card from the laptop.
- 6). Use a small, flat-head screwdriver to remove the rubber screw covers from the bottom side of the laptop. Then remove all Phillips screws from the laptop's bottom casing. Place the laptop face up, and open the display panel as far as possible.
- 7). Use a small, flat-head screwdriver to remove the thin, plastic strip from below the bottom row of keyboard keys. Remove the single Phillips screw securing the keyboard in place. Lift the keyboard out of the laptop slightly. Then disconnect the ribbon cable extending from the bottom side of the keyboard to the motherboard. Remove the keyboard from the laptop.
- 8). Remove all screws from the laptop's top cover. The top cover is the main plastic piece that conceals and protects the top side of the motherboard. Disconnect all cables that connect from the top cover to the motherboard. Carefully remove the entire top cover from the laptop's base.
