How to Grow by Fluorescent Light
- 1). Fill all your pots with a high-quality soil to about 1/2 inch from each pot's rim. Most seeds require pots that are at least 3 inches wide. Place two seeds on the soil's surface inside each pot. Cover the seeds with about 1/2 inch of soil.
- 2). Place the pots in a large tray with about 3 inches of water. Let the pots sit in the water until the soil begins to moisten. This can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Drain the water from the tray when the soil has moistened. Cover the moisture-treated pots in plastic wrap, and relocate the pots to an indoor room or facility. The room should stay consistently at 75 degrees F.
- 3). Place the light fixtures above the pots at about 4 to 6 inches. Let the pots sit under the light for about 16 hours per day until sprouts appear. Then adjust the fluorescent lights to 8 inches from the pots.
- 4). Water the plants daily to keep the soil from drying out. As the plants grow, regularly adjust the fluorescent lights so they maintain a distance of 6 to 8 inches from the plants.
