Easy Steps in Learning to Maintain Saunas
Luckily, there are few things easier than sauna maintenance, and most saunas are easy to care for with simple and easy to do steps.
If your sauna is made of wood, select a good wood preservative and apply it to selected parts.
Make sure the floor is well sealed.
You can open the door once the sauna has been used to allow fresh air to circulate.
Also, be sure to dry wood surface and duck boards with a clean, dry cloth.
Use a double layer of terry cloth on the bench tops so that the seating is comfortable.
It will also keep the hygiene of the bench intact with no perspiration dripping on it.
Ensure that the terry cloth is washed at regular intervals or replaced between uses.
Wash the floors four to five times in a year to make sure it stays clean.
Use liquid cleaner and water when it comes to washing wooden benches.
This liquid cleaner should take care of the perspiration stains on the wood, if there are any.
Do not use ammonia or hard cleaning liquids since they tend to harm the texture of the wood and turn it an unsightly gray color.
There are some saunas that have a special sealant.
This sealant can be applied to the bench surfaces so that no discoloration takes place.
While re-coating, there is no need to strip it or sand the wooden surfaces.
Be sure you have the correct sealant, as it is strictly advised that commercial wood sealants should not be used.
Such commercial sealants are easily available from local lumber yards or hardware shops, but they will not able to stand up against the humidity of a sauna room.
No matter the saunas' make, sauna room doors shrink with time and sometimes even split or crack due to excessive moisture, so be sure to remove the friction door catch and adjust the pressure-setting of the sauna.
When you sit in the sauna, you should feel warm and comfortable.
Put a light bulb that is amber or orange in color to give out warm light.
Try using the bulb used for trouble lights in a car if you are having trouble finding sauna lights, and be sure to change them when they are done.
With these steps, you are on your way to taking care of and maintaining your home sauna for years to come.
