Why Does My Toshiba Laptop Display Default to Low Resolution When I Hook Up My Multimedia Projector?
- Check the maximum resolution of your projector. This information will be somewhere in the projector's literature, either on a spec sheet (if it came with one) or in the user guide. Older projectors had lower maximum resolutions than top-of-the-line projectors from the past year, so your computer will adjust accordingly.
- When you attach an external video device to your notebook, you can't really continue to think of your computer as a laptop at all; it's now functioning as a de facto desktop computer. Depending on the model or your laptop, the LCD screen may display one resolution and the projector a second, or the LCD screen resolution may be reduced to the projector's maximum.
- Rebooting your computer should revert the settings, or toggle the output (if applicable). Depending on your operating system, your laptop may create a display profile that stores settings for different external connections. Try always to boot the computer after attaching the projector instead of attaching it while the system is still running, as this will affect settings. Update your video drivers from the Toshiba website (specific to your model) if the problem continues.
