- 1). Empty the Quikrete bag into the mixing container. If using a mixer, turn on the mixer, and add the dry mix to the rotating drum. Use the hoe for mixing in the wheelbarrow or trough. Add approximately 6 pints of water, for an 80 lb. bag, and mix thoroughly. If the mixture is too difficult to manipulate, add water slowly.
- 2). Continue mixing until you achieve a uniform consistency. Turn off the mixer if applicable. Form the wet concrete into a cone (if available) or use the hoe to make a flat sided mound 2 or 3 inches tall. Observe the behavior of your mound.
- 3). Add water a little at a time until the mound looks wet but will hold its shape. Wet and sticky will not cure properly, dry and flaky will not have the necessary strength to meet the ASTM standard.
