How to Install Intermatic Pool Trip Switches
- 1). Turn off the pool pump's circuit breaker.
- 2). Depress the locking tab holding the top of the clock dial's mounting plate to the Intermatic trip-switch timer's housing. Slip the top of the mounting plate over the tab and pull the mounting plate out of the timer housing.
- 3). Mount the Intermatic trip-switch pool timer's housing against the side of the building between the circuit breaker and the pool pump, using local building codes as a placement guide. Run wood or concrete screws, depending on the building's siding material, through the screw holes in the back of the timer's housing. Tighten the screws with the correct screwdriver.
- 4). Position the bottom of the clock dial's mounting plate into its slots in the Intermatic trip-switch timer's housing. Push the top of the mounting plate past the locking tab.
- 5). Insert the wire set from the circuit breaker into one of the wire access holes, located on the bottom of the Intermatic pool timer's housing. Push the wire set feeding electricity to the pump motor into the second wire access hole.
- 6). Route the bare copper wires in both wire sets to the green screw on the clock dial's mounting plate, located on the left-hand side of the clock dial. Wrap both copper wires around the green screw. Tighten the screw with a slotted screwdriver.
- 7). Insert the circuit breaker's black-colored wire into the trip-switch timer's wire terminal with the "1" label and tighten the terminal screw with the slotted screwdriver. An Intermatic trip-switch timer uses the numbers 1 through 4 to label the hot wire terminals. The "1" terminal feeds power to the trip switch's "L1" leg and to the dial clock's motor wire.
- 8). Slide the circuit breaker's white- or red-colored wire into the Intermatic trip-switch timer's "3" wire terminal and tighten the terminal screw with the slotted screwdriver. The "3" terminal supplies power to the trip switch's "L2" leg and the dial clock's second motor wire.
- 9). Push the pump motor's black-colored wire into the Intermatic trip-switch timer's "2" wire terminal and tighten the terminal screw with the slotted screwdriver. The "2" terminal provides power to the pool pump's "L1" leg.
- 10
Slip the pump motor's red- or white-colored wire into the Intermatic trip-switch timer's "4" wire terminal and tighten the terminal screw with the slotted screwdriver. The "4" terminal supplies the power to the pump motor's "L2" leg. - 11
Loosen the thumb screw on the "On" trip lug and place the lug at its appropriate spot on the clock dial, using the time settings on the dial as a guide. Tighten the lug's thumb screw. - 12
Loosen the thumb screw on the "Off" trip lug and move the lug to its appropriate spot on the clock dial, using the dial's time settings as a guide. Tighten the lug's thumb screw. - 13
Pull the clock dial away from its mounting plate and rotate the dial until the dial's timer arrow faces the current time of the day, using a wristwatch as a guide. Release the clock dial and close the timer housing's lid. Turn on the pool pump's circuit breaker.
