Opening your Fan Page is like having an "open house" event where people you know or who want to know you, can come together and get to know one another better.
You want someone to show up, over and over and over! Your Facebook Fan Page has a special purpose and it reflects your passion - whether it be a cause, a product or a service.
You want to share your passion to many people.
So now, you wait...
and wait...
and wait...
and wait.
Hardly anyone shows up, now what? Here are some things that are found to be successful.
Not any one tip will make your Fan Page the hit of the day, but employ several and you should get some great connections coming to you.
After that, you are the host of the party.
Make it a point to acknowledge each person as they come on.
Make them feel like they are a very welcome guest and that they can have a great time there.
Be sure to show some personality and graciousness.
Build that relationship.
Then to keep them coming back, present information, tips, personality, and fun - CONTENT that THEY ARE LOOKING FOR.
Maybe they are looking to find a connection they need from your party, uh, Page.
Be sure to introduce those people that might benefit from knowing each other.
Ask them to post their "parties" on your site, because you are willing to encourage their successful event or Fan Page growth too! Remember "give and it shall be given back to you", "it is in the giving that you shall receive".
Here is a list of 16 ways to promote your Facebook Fan Page.

You can include anchor test links to make further promotions there.
  10. Be sure your User Profile includes your Business (Fan) Page name/link.
  11. Comment on other users' Facebook pages as your Page Name, change the setting to be "Betty Sue's Business Fan Page" instead of "Betty Sue".
Warning! Be careful to not pitch your business or products or services on the competitor's site as your Fan Page, that breaks the etiquette code of honor.
Be social able, and be helpful.
Even edify the competitor - it just might make you seem more attractive!
  12. Add back links within your Fan Page to your website/blog site for more in depth information about you and your business.
    It brings out your "expertise".
  13. Find other people who have popular Fan Pages that are similar but in competition with you, those that might benefit from having a relationship/partnership with you, and share links.
Ask them to tell their fans about you and you would do the same.
For example: A pet sitting service and a concierge service that would both benefit from taking care of customers that need their home and pets cared for while they are on vacation.
Or a plumbing business that can partner with a home construction expert, they can share referrals from each other's sites.
  14. LIKE other pages and ask them to LIKE yours.
  15. Do a contest or offer, to bring people to your Fan Page.
  16. Last but not least, and maybe most important! When among "real" people, ask if they are on Facebook, and invite them to go to your page and LIKE it.
Word of mouth, face to face relationships make your fans "lifers" and your best "mouthpiece" to others!
