How to Photograph Embroidered Products for a Website

    • 1). Find a space in your home with lots of warm light streaming through windows, sliding glass doors and skylights. Do not photograph in a room filled with fluorescent or incandescent light, as this will give your photos a yellowish or bluish cast. Stick with natural light for the most accurate color reproduction.

    • 2). Spread a white sheet, blanket or towel across a flat surface, such as a table or counter top, and smooth out all the wrinkles with the palms of your hands.

    • 3). Place your embroidered product onto the white background. Smooth wrinkles from the item if it is flat, and make sure there is no lint or dust that could be visible in the photo.

    • 4). Connect your digital camera to a mini-tripod and place it near the embroidered item, making sure the camera is angled properly to render a head-on snapshot. Avoid any tilting, as it could give a false impression of the shape and dimension of the item.

    • 5). Look through the camera lens and make sure you like the composition of the photo, and ensure that there are no distracting shadows or spots of glare. Get as close as you can to the item while keeping it in the frame, and make sure the focus is set for a close-up shot.

    • 6). Take a number of shots of each embroidered item to increase the odds of getting at least one that is as close to perfect as possible. Try using a number of automatic settings and experiment with the manual mode using different exposure levels.

    • 7). Attach your digital camera to your computer using the cable provided by the manufacturer and follow all directions in your user manual for transferring the photos to your hard drive.

    • 8). Make adjustments to the photos for color, contrast and focus using an image editing program such as Adobe Photoshop or Google's Picasa, and save the adjusted photo as a JPEG using a resolution of 300 dots per inch (DPI) for printing them out or 72 DPI for displaying them online.
