How to Remove Hard Drive Jumpers
- 1). Shut down your computer if it is powered on. Unplug the unit from the power source.
- 2). Clip an anti-static wrist strap to bare metal on the computer chassis. Connect the other end around one of your wrists.
- 3). Open the case cover and remove the data cable and power cable from the hard drive. The procedure for opening the case will vary, depending on the brand and model of your computer, but it usually involves removing from four to a dozen screws around the edge of the case. Remove the hard drive from the computer for better access to the drive jumpers.
- 4). Examine the current location of the hard drive jumpers for reference in case you need to move them back to the original settings.
- 5). Use the small needle-nose pliers or tweezers to grasp the top edge of the jumper and pull it straight off the connector. You may be able to do this using the tip of your index finger and thumb in some cases.
- 6). Re-install the jumper by gripping the plastic-coated end and pushing the exposed metal contacts on the other end of the jumper over the pins on the hard drive.
