How to Kill Cypress Vines

    • 1). Cut the vines off at their base with a pair of lopping shears.

    • 2). Kill the cypress vine's roots. Dig them out of the ground with a shovel, or paint the cut surface of the vines with a broad-spectrum or broad-leaf herbicide. The sooner you paint the cut base of the vines -- within 30 seconds is ideal -- the more effective the herbicide is. Dig up the herbicide treated roots at your leisure or leave them in the ground to decompose.

    • 3). Pull the cypress vines away from the structure they're attached to. Or, if they are not in the way or an eye sore, leave them in place. They will eventually wither and die now that they are detached from their roots.
