How to Install Network Printer Software
- 1). Open the Start menu, then click on the "Control Panel" listing to open the Control Panel window. Click "Printers and Faxes" if using Windows XP, then click "Add a Printer;" if using Windows Vista or Windows 7, click "Hardware and Sound," then "Add a Printer" under the "Devices and Printers" listing.
- 2). Begin the "Add Printer" wizard, clicking "Next" to advance to the screen where you select whether you wish to install a local or network printer. Choose the "network" option.
- 3). Choose "Find a Printer in the Directory" if you are installing the printer using the network option. Enter the name of the network when prompted, then wait while a list of all printers on the network is compiled. Select the printer that you want to install from the list, then click "OK."
- 4). Wait while the installation wizard attempts to install drivers for the printer that you selected. If the wizard is unable to automatically install the drivers, use the option to browse for drivers and select the printer software provided by the manufacturer.
- 5). Wait while the network printer software finishes installing. Once installation has finished, you may be prompted to print a test page to make sure that you are able to print correctly from the network printer.
- 1). Open the Start menu and click on "Control Panel." Select the option to add a printer that is relevant to your operating system.
- 2). Click "Next" to advance the printer installation wizard so that you can choose whether you wish to install a local or network printer. Choose the "local" option and uncheck the "Automatically detect and install" option. Click "Next" to continue.
- 3). Select the option to create a new port. Change the port type to "Standard TCP/IP Port," then click "Next." A new window will open with the "Add Standard TP/IP Printer Port" wizard.
- 4). Consult the network printer's label to find the IP address for the printer. Enter this IP address when prompted for the printer's name or IP address as you work through the printer port creation wizard. A port name will be created based on this IP address; do not change this name. Click the "Next" button to continue.
- 5). Enter information about your network card if prompted to do so, then click "Next." Wait while the installation wizard scans the network for the IP address that you supplied and creates a new port, then click "Finish."
- 6). Select your printer in the "Add Printer" wizard once your computer recognizes it using the port that you just created. Wait while the wizard attempts to install drivers for the printer, browsing to the manufacturer's drivers and installing them if necessary.
- 7). Click "Finish" to complete the "Add Printer" wizard. Print a test page if prompted to do so.
