How to Troubleshoot the Picture on a Panasonic HDTV
- 1). Press the power button on the side of the TV to turn it on. Wait a few seconds while the TV powers up, then press the "Menu" button on the remote control. If nothing happens, check the batteries in the remote and try again. Depending on the model of Panasonic HDTV, you may have a "Menu" button on the front control pane on the TV -- press this. If the menu displays correctly, with no distortion or visual interference, proceed to Step 3.
- 2). Examine the picture for physical distortion or dead pixels. Dead pixels are black spots on the screen. It's not unusual for a few dead pixels to appear on your screen over the course of a few years, and most companies -- Panasonic included -- don't consider this to be a serious issue. But if you have dozens of black spots on your TV or if the picture is distorted (looks to be pulled to one side), the TV may be damaged and need to be serviced or replaced.
- 3). Reset the Panasonic TV to its factory default settings. The specific menu location for this function differs on different models, but as a general guide: hit the "Menu" button and then choose "Setup" from the sub-menu. Scroll down to "Reset" and press the middle button of the control pad to select it. Then choose "Yes" on the warning screen. This resets your TV to its factory default settings, which overwrites any setting changes you made that might have caused picture distortion.
- 4). Check all of the connections between your TV and input devices, which might include a receiver, cable TV box, VCR, DVD player, Blu-ray player, or any video game systems. If you are using a receiver for several inputs, eliminate the receiver as a possible source of picture problems. Connect one device -- any device -- directly into the Panasonic HDTV. Change the input to that device and check the picture quality. If, for example, your Xbox 360 displays its picture in HD, then you know the TV is working correctly and can troubleshoot the other devices.
