How to Do a System Backup on XP
- 1). Insert your Microsoft Windows XP CD into your CD-ROM drive.
- 2). Click "Perform Additional Tasks" on the welcome screen.
- 3). Click "Browse This CD" and then click "Value Add Folder," "Msft" and "Ntbackup."
- 4). Double-click "Ntbackup.msi" to install the backup utility.
- 5). Click "Start" and use the mouse pointer to navigate to "All Programs," "Accessories" and "System Tools" before clicking on "Backup" to start the wizard.
- 6). Click "Next" and choose "Back up files and setting." Click "Next" again.
- 7). Choose the backup option that best fits your needs. Most personal files and folders are stored in "My Documents and settings." This will include your music files as well (this is the recommended option). Storing "All information on this computer" may take up several gigabytes of space.
- 8). Decide where to back up your information. If you have a hard drive with a second partition, the second partition is a recommended area of storage. Other options include a zip drive, shared network drive, USB thumb drive or external hard drive.
- 9). Set a regular schedule for backups. Backing up your information on a consistent basis will ensure that your valuable data is safe.
