How to Troubleshoot a Cable TV Signal
- 1). Flip through all the channels in your cable TV package. If you are noticing a problem such as a distorted image on all channels, then the issue is with your television or cable box. If you are only noticing the problem on one specific channel, the problem is likely with that channel only and there isn't anything you can do to fix it. If you experience issues like this you can try to call your cable service provider to see if there is a problem that can be fixed on the company's end, but the issue will likely have to be worked out on its own.
- 2). Examine the cables that connect your cable box to your TV. These cables should be firmly connected to both the receiver and your TV. Gently push in on the cables and see if they move onto the plugs on each device any farther. If the cables move when you push on them, they weren't connected properly which is where your audio or video problems are coming from. Gently push in the cables to make sure they have a good connection.
- 3). Reboot your cable box by turning it off and then turning it back on again. Cable boxes are essentially just like computers but are designed for a single purpose -- to deliver cable TV to your home. Like computers, they have their own on-board memory and if an error gets loaded into the memory, it can spell trouble for your cable TV reception. To combat this, try rebooting the box. This clears the memory and allows the box to overcome whichever error was debilitating it.
