Car Stereo Installation Instructions for a 1999 Toyota Tacoma
- 1). Raise the Tacoma's hood and loosen the bolt that holds the negative battery cable to the negative battery terminal with the wrench. Lift the cable from the battery and set it aside. Move to the inside of the truck.
- 2). Remove the climate control knobs by pulling them from the climate control panel by hand. Remove the climate control panel from the dash by prying it from the dash with a flat screwdriver or trim panel removal tool. Open the ashtray and remove the screw at the upper-left corner of the opening with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
- 3). Grab the trim panel that surrounds the stereo and climate controls and pull it away from the dashboard. Remove the two screws on either side of the stereo with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Slide the stereo from the dashboard stereo dock and disconnect the stereo wiring and antenna cable from the back of the factory unit.
- 4). Place the Toyota faceplate adapter in the empty stereo mounting dock. Feed the stereo wiring and antenna cable from the back of the unit to the front of the Toyota's dashboard. Plug the stereo wiring into the wiring harness adapter.
- 5). Plug the wiring harness adapter and antenna cable lead into the outlets on the back of the new stereo. Slide the new unit into the faceplate adapter until it locks in place. Replace the dash panel over the stereo and climate controls. Press firmly to snap it back in place. Install the screw at the top-left corner of the ashtray opening. Replace the climate control knobs and return to the Tacoma's battery.
- 6). Place the negative battery cable clamp back on the negative battery terminal. Tighten the cable's clamp to the battery terminal and close the hood.
