DIY Gold-Painted Chair
- 1). Place the chair in a well-ventilated area on a drop cloth or newspapers. Painting the chair outside on a sunny day is ideal.
- 2). Clean the chair thoroughly using dish soap and a sponge. Rinse with plain water, then dry with a hair dryer or let air-dry. Do not use a rag or towel to dry the chair, as tiny pieces of fabric may get caught in the wood.
- 3). Abrade the wood chair with fine-grit sandpaper just enough to roughen the surface. This will provide a base to which the paint can bond.
- 4). Wipe down the chair after sanding with a tack cloth.
- 5). Apply the first coat of gold paint. Use spray paint or apply paint from a can with a paintbrush. Allow the coat to dry for three to four hours.
- 6). Spray or brush on a second coat. Allow the paint to dry. Apply a third coat if the gold paint remains too light.
- 7). Apply a coat of clear lacquer with a paintbrush or aerosol spray. Let the lacquer dry three to four hours before use.
