How Pool Covers Are Made
- Pool covers are made of UV-stabilized polyethylene, vinyl, or polypropylene. The least expensive are bubble covers, designed similarly to bubble packing material, but contain UV inhibitors and are a thicker plastic. Vinyl covers are heavier material and last longer, while insulated vinyl covers have a layer of flexible insulation between two layers of vinyl.
- Pool covers save energy, conserve water and reduce chemical consumption. A properly-constructed pool cover provides protection from children falling in, and keeps the water free of debris such as leaves.
- An automatic cover system works with the push of a button to extend or retract the cover over the pool. Manual covers are cheaper and give most of the same benefits, but are a little more labor intensive.
