How do I Fish for Redfish on Fripp Island?

    • 1). Select your fishing spot. Fishing from the rocks or the nearby fishing pier or dock is a good place to start. Redfish will hide under fishing piers and docks in water that is 3 to 4 feet deep.

    • 2). Place a bobber on a 2 1/2 foot leader line above the hook with the lure or bait. This will float until a fish hits your bait.

    • 3). Bait your hook. Shrimp works very well when you place it on your hook. There are plastic lures that you can purchase from bait shop or the marina on Fripp Island that work very well also. Bait is not needed with a lure.

    • 4). Cast your line into the water and wait for the bobber to go under the water. This will indicate a fish has taken your bait.

    • 5). Give your rod a slight pull back to set the hook in the fishes mouth. If you pull too hard you will pull the hook away from the fish. If you miss hooking the fish, leave the line in the water as the fish will usually come back for a second try.

    • 6). Reel in the redfish and remove the hook from the fishes mouth with hook remover pliers. Place in a bucket or cooler out of the sun or into a fish keeper if you are on a boat.
