How to Rig for Florida Sheepshead
- 1). Thread the end of the fishing line -- extending from a fishing rod and reel -- through the opening of a slide sinker. Push the line through the opening until 12 inches of line extend beyond the back end of the sinker. Push a plastic bead on the end of the line.
- 2). Tie the end of the line -- extending past the slide sinker -- to one end of a barrel swivel.
- 3). Cut a piece of 20-pound leader material to 36 inches with a pair of fingernail clippers. Tie one end of the leader to the second end of the barrel swivel. Allow the plastic bead and slide sinker to sit on top of the barrel swivel.
- 4). Tie a circle hook to the loose end of the 20-pound leader material. Ensure all knots are pulled tight to the terminal fishing tackle.
- 5). Thread a piece of shrimp on the end of the circle hook. Drop the rigged fishing line into water near a barnacle covered structure. Remove the rig and add a heavier slide sinker if the piece of shrimp does not remain in position when lowered into the saltwater.
