- 1). Take the fly line off the reel so you can clean the line properly.
- 2). Wash the line by letting it soak in warm soapy water.
- 3). Remove the line from the water. Pull the line through a cloth or specially designed cleaning pad. Use your fingers to apply slight pressure to the line as it slides through the cloth or pad.
- 4). Apply a line dressing to the line using a cloth other than the cloth or pad you used to clean the line.
- 5). Attach the line to the reel. Reel in the newly cleaned line until all of the line has been returned to the reel.
