Sturgeon Fishing in the UK
- Unfortunately for interested fishermen, sturgeon are not a commonly caught fish in England or the United Kingdom. If you are to find them, then they will most likely be in farms. Nuper's Farm, Stapleford Abbots for example, is the only location listed by "UK Fisherman" for having a sizable population of sturgeon in England.
- Out of the 25 different species of sturgeon, British waters are only home to one of them. It is the Acipenser sturio. It derives its origins from the Baltic Sea. Acipenser spawns in the fresh water of the rivers, before migrating back to the salt waters of the ocean.
- According to the British marine Life Study Society, the sturgeon population was extremely plentiful two centuries ago. This was especially the case in the larger rivers like the Thames and Avon, and in some of the "rivers in Scotland."
