How to Tie Snell Tyers
- 1). Hold the snell knot tyer with the hook and line holder on top. Measure up the leader or line 12 inches and slide the line in the line holder slot at this point.
- 2). Place the bend of a hook in the hook holder with the point of the hook on the bottom and the shank on top.
- 3). Insert the working end of the line through the hook eye from the bottom. Pull the working end down the shank of the hook to the hook holder. Wrap the working end around the line holder molded onto the hook holder. Pull the working end back to the hook shank.
- 4). Place the needle that's provided with the snell along the top of the shank. Insert the point of the needle into the hole in the hook holder just above the bend of the hook.
- 5). Wrap the working end of the line around the hook shank and needle five turns. Insert the working end of the line through the needle eye. Remove the line from around the line holder. Hold the line wraps securely in place.
- 6). Remove the wrapped hook from the snell tyer. Pull the needle through the wraps and remove the working end of the line from the needle. Hold the working end of the line and pull the main line to tighten the snell knot.
