How to Line Your Fishing Rod
- 1). Grab the roll of new line and put a screwdriver through the middle hole so that it can move freely. Run the end of the fishing line through the guideposts of the pole until it reaches the reel that's mounted at the bottom.
- 2). Open the bail and tie the fishing line around the circular reel using any type of knot. The reel must be open during this step or the line will not come through the pole during the next step.
- 3). Use your hand to wind some of the line through the bail to get the process started. Failure to do this can result in the line slipping out of the reel when your are loading the rod.
- 4). Reel in the new line. If possible, have a partner take his hand and gently guide the line at the top of the pole so that the line does not tangle as it is being reeled in. Reel the line in slowly so you can monitor it and make sure it is wrapping evenly around the reel. Once you have enough, cut the fishing line and tie either a snap swivel or a fishing lure to the end of it. Hook that onto one of the top guideposts of the pole.
