Although some fishermen who venture to Alaska after trout choose to hire a guide or stay at a lodge, there are ample opportunities to rent a cabin on a quiet lake or river and fish on your own and at your own pace. There are companies that will transport you to a cabin they maintain and provide you with everything you need, or you can book a cabin yourself, pack you gear and arrange for your own transportation. - Alaska Lodging & Adventures offers trout fishing cabin rentals on a scenic 40-acre property located in the center of the Kenai Peninsula, 150 miles south of Anchorage. The cabins are on the shores of West Mackey Lake near the Kenai River.
Cabins are equipped with either a queen-sized bed or twin bunk beds. All cabins are equipped with a full bath with shower, hide-a-bed, full kitchenette with pots, pans and dishes and color TV. Laundry facilities and wireless internet are available, and the lodge can supply ice coolers and fishing gear if needed.
There is an outside area for cleaning fish as well as a large walk-in freezer. There is also a cabin for vacuum packing your fish. Available trout species include rainbow and Dolly Varden. There is no additional charge for children under 10.

You will need to bring your own sleeping bag, food and personal necessities. Go Fishing Alaska will supply fishing tackle (rod and reels), or you can bring own. it suggests you pick up your own flies and lures after you arrive in Alaska so you will have the native patterns.

Many are located near streams, rivers and lakes that offer fishing for rainbow and Dolly Varden trout as well as grayling and salmon. The cabins are in remote locations, and most are accessible only by aircraft. The cabins are not able to be reserved and available to everyone on a first-come, first-served bases.
Cabins are all only equipped with a wood stove and bunks, so you must bring any items you need including bedding, cooking, food and personal items. The Park Service requests that visitors replace any cut firewood and leave the cabin clean and ready for the next user.
