How to Draw a Larva
- 1). Study images of the particular larva that you wish to draw. Pay special attention to size, color and shape. Note anatomical peculiarities, such as legs and appendages.
- 2). Sketch the larva using loose, circular forms. Break your drawing into segments and sketch them one part at a time. Keep each segment soft and circular. Since larvae are defined by soft forms, avoid using hard, straight lines or pointed, geometric features.
- 3). Check your sketch for symmetry by drawing a light line down the center of the larva. Your drawing should appear balanced and even.
- 4). Shade the larva by turning your pencil on its side and softly forming small circles of shadow. Keep the direction of your pencil strokes curving and rounded to suggest the organic shape and soft surface of the larva. Observe areas of shadow in your subject to act as a guide for your shading.
- 5). Use your eraser to blend highlights into the shadows of your larva. This will help achieve a smooth, shiny surface.
