The Best Way to Keep Weeds From Growing Under Pine Trees
- 1). Hoe an area 4 to 6 feet in diameter around the base of your pine.
- 2). Spread pine bark or pine needles on the bare area you created. If you have a mature pine tree, keep the needles that the plant drops.
- 3). Build a 3-inch-deep mulch pile with the bark or needles. Spread it across the diameter of the bare ground around the tree. Start the mulch ring 6 inches from the trunk to allow for air circulation. If any weeds sprout in that area, pull them immediately.
- 4). Refill the mulch pile as the organic matter decomposes. Maintain it at a depth of 3 inches to effectively prevent weeds.
