How to Load an Inspiron 1300 From CDs
- 1). Close any applications running on the Inspiron 1300, including any anti-virus or firewall software. Unplug the network cable and any peripheral devices, such as printers or external hard drives.
- 2). Put the Dell recovery CD in the notebook's optical drive. Exit the "AutoPlay" prompt when it appears. Navigate to the "Start" menu. Choose the "Restart" option.
- 3). Wait for the restart process to pause when the "Press any key to load from CD" text appears on the 1300's screen. Hit any of the keyboard keys to load the operating system recovery CD.
- 4). Use the drop-down menus that load on the screen to select the new language, keyboard input and time zone options. Choose "Next" and click "Install Now."
- 5). Click the "I accept the license terms" check box. Choose the "Custom (advanced)" option. Choose the primary hard drive partition and select "Next."
- 6). Follow the on-screen prompts to choose a name for the notebook and create a new Windows user name and password. Reconnect the network cable, if you use one. Open the "Start" menu. Click "Windows Update" and follow the directions to install the latest Windows updates.
- 7). Use the installation discs for any other programs you need to install, such as an anti-virus program or the driver for a printer.
