Japanese Plants With Orange Flowers
- Japanese flowering quince (Chaenomeles japonica) is a small shrub with deciduous broadleafed foliage. Belonging to the genus Chaenomeles, the flowering quince is not a true quince, since quince plants are part of the genus Cydonia. A native to eastern Asia, the Japanese flowering quince grows to heights of 3 feet. The bark of the Japanese flowering quince is a grayish hue and covered in spines. The foliage consists of oval-shaped leaves of a deep green color. During the late winter, the Japanese flowering quince blossoms with showy flowers in shades of orange and red.
- Orange daylily (Hemerocallis fulva) is an herbaceous perennial indigenous to Japan and part of the Xanthorrhoeaceae plant family. Daylilies are not true lilies because they belong to the genus Hemerocallis; true lilies are from the genus Lilium. Formed from rhizomes, orange daylilies develop into a clumping mound 1.5 to 5 feet tall. Early summer to late fall, the orange daylily blooms with flowers consisting of a yellow throat, six orange ruffled petals flowers, and orange and black stamens. The flowers last only for one day; however, the plant produces numerous blossoms over a long blooming period. Orange daylilies thrive in full sun and slightly acidic, moist soil.
- Japanese roses (Rosa Rugosa) are a shrub rose originating from eastern Asia and Japan. This Rosaceae family plant enjoys moist soil and full sun. Japanese rose Agnes is a hybrid cultivar with showy apricot-colored double blossoms. Agnes is not a repeat bloomer; however, the flowers last a long time. This hardy dense shrub grows to 5 feet tall with a spread of 5 feet. Japanese roses are ornamental plants often used to make potpourri.
- Lilium maculatum is an Asiatic garden lily endemic to northern and central Japan. Belonging to the Lilium plant family, Lilium maculatum is a 2- to 3-foot-tall herbaceous bulb plant. This early-blooming lily has funnel-shaped flowers comprising six orange tepals covered in dark red dots. Lilium maculatum likes full sun and fertile, moist well-draining soil. Landscapers use garden lilies for border and container plants. Garden lilies are stunning cut flowers used in floral arrangements.
