How to Grow Passiflora for Incense
- 1). Dig a small hole close to the base of the trellis. Put three or four passiflora seeds into the hole and cover with dirt. Do not pack the dirt. Water the seeds until the soil is moist but not soaked.
- 2). Water the passiflora seeds every other day, looking for sprouts after about a week and a half. When the vine reaches about eight inches, begin twining the vine in and out of the trellis weave. Continue watering regularly.
- 3). Prune overgrowth; when flowers and leaves are fully formed, clip out about 30 percent of the growth at the base. This will allow the remaining blooms to breathe.
- 4). Tie together small bundles of the pruned flowers at the end of the stems. Hang them from the ceiling in a cool, dark place for about two weeks or until dry and brittle.
- 5). Remove the stems from the flowers and put the flowers into the mortar, two or three at a time. Crush gently with the pestle until powdered and use in any incense mixture.
