How to Chum for Fish
- 1). Making fishing chum at home starts with having fish to use. You can use fish scraps from fish you have caught, bait that you didn't use, or you can get scraps from local fish markets for free. The oily fish like blues, mullets, herring, sardines, and bonitas make the best chum and will attract the most fish to catch.
- 2). Chop the old fish, bones and all, by placing it into a blender. If you don't have a blender to use (or your wife will kill you for using yours) you can chop the chum up with a heavy duty knife. Chop the fish up as small as you can.
- 3). Next add in some cat food. One can of wet cat food for every 3-4 cups of ground fish is the perfect recipe for making the best fishing chum. Adding cat food puts a scent into the chum that fish love!
- 4). Scoop your chum into the old sock or stockings. Make sure you leave room at the top to tie a knot. Now you can freeze chum for next time you go out fishing.
- 5). When you decide to go catch some fish, take your chum with you.
- 6). Tie a string to the chum and lower it into the water. As the chum thaws, it will release the oils and scents into the water attracting fish. Cast your bait into the chum slick and wait for catch some fish!
