How to Hook a Tinted Yellow Perch
- 1). Fish for yellow perch from late summer until late fall. This is when the species is most active.
- 2). Cast close to shore, along the bottom near plants and rocks. Yellow perch feed by light, typically once in the morning and once in the afternoon. This pattern holds constant in rivers and lakes.
- 3). Set up your ultralight rod with a bait-casting reel. Bait your hook with minnows. Yellow perch are sometimes caught on lures, but minnows tend to be more effective.
- 4). Cast your line. Perch feed deep, so allow the bait to touch the bottom. This is where the perch is most likely to strike. Perch are not as susceptible to weather changes as other fish; once a perch finds an area it tends to frequent it.
