Bird of Paradise Plant Food

104 73

    Function

    • Plant food provides the bird-of-paradise with the nutrients necessary to manufacture its own food through the process of photosynthesis. The right plant food helps the bird-of-paradise produce strong, tall stems and large flowers.

    Features

    • Fertilizers to consider for the bird-of-paradise include organic food, such as blood meal or manure. If you prefer to use synthetic, commercial plant food, horticulture specialists with the University of Florida recommend Osmocote or Nutricote.

    Considerations

    • When planting the new bird-of-paradise, incorporate 3 or 4 inches of manure into the soil. This gives the plant a strong start. Once established, the bird-of-paradise requires fertilizing every three months during the growing season.
