Bird of Paradise Plant Food
- Plant food provides the bird-of-paradise with the nutrients necessary to manufacture its own food through the process of photosynthesis. The right plant food helps the bird-of-paradise produce strong, tall stems and large flowers.
- Fertilizers to consider for the bird-of-paradise include organic food, such as blood meal or manure. If you prefer to use synthetic, commercial plant food, horticulture specialists with the University of Florida recommend Osmocote or Nutricote.
- When planting the new bird-of-paradise, incorporate 3 or 4 inches of manure into the soil. This gives the plant a strong start. Once established, the bird-of-paradise requires fertilizing every three months during the growing season.
