    How to Draw Fantasy Characters

    • 1). Copy a quarter-inch graph onto a transparency, which can be purchased at any art store or retailers such as Wal-Mart. Any good copy shop will be able to photocopy a quarter-inch graph onto a clear transparency. Also, most inkjet and laser home printers will achieve the same thing.

    • 2). Photocopy a piece of art onto plain paper or simply right-click on an image on the Internet and print it out. Since we are only learning how to draw fantasy characters, we will not be infringing upon any copyrights in printing out a copy.

    • 3). Lay your transparency with the grid lines over the artwork you wish to copy. Make sure you can secure the transparency with tape or pushpins. The idea is that you will be able to copy the artwork one graph square at a time.

    • 4). Lay a piece of graph paper next to the image you wish to copy. This should be a piece of graph paper with very light blue lines that will not photocopy later. Pick a square on your graph paper that corresponds to a square on your transparency and begin drawing. Only concentrate on copying one graph square at a time. By concentrating on copying just a quarter-inch of the original artwork at a time, you should be able to draw an almost perfect reproduction of the original fantasy art.

    • 5). Carefully copy over all of your pencil lines with a black ink pen. Do any shading or make any alterations to the original art at this point. Once the ink has fully dried, erase any stray pencil lines with a large soft eraser, which you clean often. Once all pencil lines are erased, photocopy your drawing. Since the light blue lines on the graph paper will not show up on a photocopy, you will be left with a perfect drawing of the original fantasy artwork.
