When it comes to old pool liners, the old adage "Waste not want not" is applicable. On the surface it may look like just a piece of trash, having small holes and outliving its usefulness. However, it can be utilized in other areas, and you can help the environment by keeping it out of a landfill. - Being very large and made of thick plastic, you can use it as a tarp. Cover outdoor equipment with it, or if you are transporting goods in a pickup truck, you can use it there as well. Cut it to fit, and use ropes or stakes to keep it from blowing away.
- Make a light framework out of lumber, then use the old liner as a shade cover. If done properly, it can look very attractive. Attach grommets around the perimeter with a grommet-setting tool. Use rope or elastic cord to secure the liner—now a cover—onto the framework.
- If you have a garden, you can use an old pool liner for weed control. Cut strips to fit in between the rows and cover the strips with shredded bark mulch. Leave enough space so that rain and water runoff will be absorbed into the soil surrounding the plants.
