How to Make Your Own Fishing Lure

    • 1). Place a small saucepan on a stovetop and turn it on to low heat. Put 1 oz. of liquid plastic in the saucepan. (If you want to make a multicolored lure, melt liquid plastic in two saucepans; each will be a different color.) Using a spatula or other plastic stirring device stir the plastic as it melts. Don't allow the plastic to boil or simmer, as this will alter the texture and burn the plastic.

    • 2). Choose the colors for your lure. Stir in a few drops of plastic coloring, and stir well to make sure it is thoroughly mixed. If you want to add glitter, stir it in.

    • 3). Set the lure mold on a flat surface, such as a countertop. Place the hook in the mold and pour the liquid plastic in, making sure the hook stays in place. Tap the mold against the countertop to remove any bubbles and level out the surface. Let sit for a few minutes.

    • 4). While the mold sits find a large container and add an inch or so of cold water. Set the mold in the water. Be careful not to tip the mold and set the plastic off balance. Leave in the water for 10 minutes.

    • 5). Put some paper towels or rags out on the counter. Remove the mold and flip it over, then press the lures out, allowing them to drop on the paper towels or rag. Add some oil to the lure by rubbing it onto your fingers and rolling the lure through the oil.
