    • 1). Draw the shape of the head first. Focus on using shapes to define the shape of the head. Draw a circle for a round, fatter face or an oval for a longer, thinner face.

    • 2). Draw the eyes about halfway down the head. Then choose a shapes for the eyes. Almond shape, circles, or half moon eyes are common shapes. Draw small vertical lines above the eyes for eyelashes and shade in a thicker line above the eyelashes to form the eyebrows.

    • 3). Draw a slight line centered and beginning just below the eyes, then curve the line to the left or right. The straight part of the line is the bridge of the nose and the curve the fleshy part of the nose. For a fuller nose, curve the line on both sides.

    • 4). Draw a mouth a bit below the nose. To form the mouth, draw a basic almond shape below the nose, then draw a horizontal line across the center of the almond to form an upper and lower lip.

    • 5). Add ears to your sketch. The eyes should line up with the middle of the ears. Start with your pencil on upper edge of your character's head and keep the pencil on the paper as you bring the line slightly away from the side of the head, curve it back toward the head, and bring the line down form the ear.

    • 6). Add light shading around the sides of the nose and beneath the eyes, then use your eraser to smudge the pencil lead. This will add some depth to your person's face and help take away the flatness of the sketch.
