How to Use a Flatfish Trout Lure
- 1). Assemble your rod and reel, and run the fishing line through the guides on the rod. Examine the line carefully to make sure it is not damaged or weakened.
- 2). Tie a swivel to the end of the fishing line using a clinch knot or an improved clinch knot. The swivel will prevent the line from twisting or tangling due to the motion of the flatfish.
- 3). Attach the flatfish lure to the swivel by opening the swivel's clasp, threading the wire arm of the swivel through the eye of the flatfish and closing the clasp. Now you are ready to fish.
- 4). Cast the flatfish toward a promising location. Let the flatfish sink for a few seconds to allow the lure to reach the desired depth.
- 5). Begin slowly reeling in the lure. The flatfish is designed to wobble and dart during retrieval, so the angler doesn't need to impart extra motion by jiggling the rod tip or other similar actions.
- 6). Repeat Steps 4 through 5. Vary the speed and depth at which you retrieve the flatfish.
