SP2 System Requirements
- When Windows XP released to the public in 2001, it was the premier operating system on the market. As time wore on, however, a number of bugs became apparent and improvement was needed. Luckily, Microsoft released updates in the form of "service packs" that fixed bugs, addressed issues expressed by consumers and improved the overall performance of the operating system. While the system requirements for Windows XP Service Pack 2 are similar to the requirements for Windows XP, there are a number of changes to the requirements that need to be noted before installing.
- Your computer must have a copy of Windows XP installed on it in order to install the Service Pack 2 update. To find out which version of Windows you are running, check the "System Properties" tab, found in the "My Computer" section of your computer.
- In order to install Windows XP Service Pack 2, you must have a computer with either Internet access or a CD/DVD drive. You must either download the service pack from Microsoft's website and install it on your computer or request that they send you a copy of the service pack on a disc and install it when it arrives in the mail.
- Your computer must have a minimum of a 233 megahertz (MHz) processor. This refers to the speed at which your computer can accomplish CPU cycles. Your processing speed can be found in the "System Properties" tab, found in the "My Computer" section of your computer.
- Your computer must have a minimum of 64 megabytes (MBs) of memory. This refers to your computers RAM. The more RAM your computer has, the fewer number of times your CPU must read data from your hard disk. The amount of RAM your computer has can be found in the "System Properties" tab, found in the "My Computer" section of your computer.
- Your computer must have a minimum of 2 gigabytes (GBs) of hard disk space available. Your computer's hard disk space refers to the amount of data your computer can store. This space is required to install the necessary components found in Service Pack 2 onto your computer. The amount of hard disk space you have free can be found in the "System Properties" tab, found in the "My Computer" section of your computer.
