    • HP released the Pavilion 6653C in the late 1990s. Officially, this model only supported Windows 98 Second Edition, but its specifications did make it compatible with the later Windows XP operating system. This computer used an early Celeron processor for the 370 socket and did not include many frills. It did, however, ship with a 15-inch monitor with built-in speakers, a keyboard and a mouse.

    Processor

    • The Pavilion 6653C used an Intel Celeron processor with a clock speed of 533 megahertz (MHz). This low-budget processor included a Level 2 cache of 128 kilobytes (KB). The motherboard only supported socket 370 processors. According to information given on the HP website, the fastest processor upgrade for this model was a Celeron 533 MHz processor with a bus speed of 66 megahertz (MHz).

    Memory

    • There were only two memory slots on the 6653C motherboard. These slots were compatible with Synchronous Dynamic RAM (SDRAM) of up to 128 megabytes (MB) each, for a total of 256 MB of memory in one machine. Memory options offered to the original buyers included 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB and 128 MB. Note that Microsoft recommends at least 128 MB of memory to run Windows XP. This machine would not run Windows 7 or Vista.

    Graphics

    • Graphics for this model were handled on-board by the Intel 810 chipset controller. This means that the 6653C did not require a graphics card to work properly. The graphics used 11 MB of memory. Supported resolutions ranged from 640 by 480 pixels to 1280 by 1024 pixels. The motherboard included four PCI expansion slots, one of which could be used to install a graphics card.

    Drives

    • The Pavilion 6653C included one 3.5-in. 15 gigabyte (GB) hard drive, and there was space inside for installation of one more hard drive. Due to the date of manufacture of this computer, it only supported Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE) drives. The included optical drive was a 24x speed CD-RW capable of reading, writing and re-writing CDs only. This computer could not read DVDs without an upgrade. This computer also came with a 1.44 MB floppy drive.

    Ports

    • Compared to modern computers, this computer came with few ports. There were two PS/2 ports, one each for the mouse and the keyboard. The other basic ports included one VGA port for the monitor, two USB ports, one serial and one parallel port. This model also included one 15-pin game port compatible with some game controllers manufactured during the 1990s.
