How to Take Apart an HP Pavilion ZD8000
- 1). Turn the HP Pavilion zd8000 off, unplug any cables or devices, then turn the laptop upside down with the front part of the laptop next to you. Locate the battery in the lower-middle section of the laptop.
- 2). Pull the battery-release latch, located to the left of the battery, toward you to release the battery, then remove the battery.
- 3). Remove the four screws from the hard drive bay cover, located to the right of the battery bay, using a Phillips screwdriver, then remove the cover.
- 4). Slide the hard drive bracket to the right edge of the bay, then remove the bracket.
- 5). Remove the screw between the battery bay and the hard drive bay.
- 6). Slide a straightened-out paper clip into the hole to the left of the eject button on the optical drive, located along the lower-right edge of the laptop, causing the drive to poke out of the laptop. Grab and remove the drive.
- 7). Remove the screw from the right side of the memory module cover, located directly above the battery bay, then lift and remove the cover. Remove the screw outside of the left-middle side of the memory bay cover and the screw just outside of the upper-right corner of the middle fan to loosen the keyboard.
- 8). Push the white clips along each short edges of the memory module away from the module; the module will angle upward. Carefully pull the module out of the laptop. Rotate the laptop 180 degrees.
- 9). Remove the three screws above the left, right, and center of the vent along the bottom edge of the laptop. Also, remove the screws on the bottom of the display hinges on the the back edge of the laptop.

Turn the laptop right-side up, position it so the side that opens is next to you, then open the display as wide as possible. Grab the edges of the switch cover, located behind the last row of keys, then remove the switch cover. - 11
Insert a flathead screwdriver in the tabs behind the F1, F6, F11 and "end" keys, and pry the tabs up to loosen the keyboard. Lift the rear part of the keyboard and place it keys down on the mouse touch pad. - 12
Carefully lift the black plastic piece that holds the ribbon cable extending from the keyboard in the laptop, then remove the cable and keyboard from the laptop.
