How to Change the MAC ID on a Router
- 1). Log in to your Router's admin panel. This can be accessed by opening a web browser and typing in the router's default IP address. Different brands have different numbers so check your manual (i.e., Linksys uses "http://192.168.1.1" as the default IP).
- 2). Enter the user name and password at the prompt. If you have not assigned any, check the router manufacturer's web site for the default username and password (Linksys uses "admin" as both the admin name and the password).
- 3). Go to the router's Mac setup tab. For Linksys users it will be under "MAC Address Clone" and also might be under the "Filters" section.
- 4). Click "Enable" if necessary, and enter in a new MAC address in the blank field.
- 5). Click "Clone" or "Clone your PC's MAC" and save the router settings.
