How to Connect Two Laptops Using an Ethernet
- 1). Plug an Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port of the first computer. Connect the other end of the cable to the "Ethernet" port located on the second computer. This creates a tethered, "Small Network" between the two computers.
- 2). Locate the drive or folders or files you want to share with the other computer and right-click on the icon. Select, "Sharing and Security." Click on the hyperlink titled, "If you understand the security risks but you want to share files without running the Wizard, click here." Click on, "Just enable file sharing." These two messages only appear on the first file, folder or drive you set up sharing on.
- 3). Place a check mark next to, "Share this folder on the network" and next to, "Allow network users to change my files." Place a network name in the "share name" box. Click "OK."
- 4). Access the shared folder by going to the "Start" menu, clicking on "My Computer" and then by going to "My network places." Finally, click on the icon with the name you designated in the last step.
