    • 1). Hold your spear shaft in one hand. Wipe the end of the shaft with a clean rag to clear away any dirt and debris.

    • 2). Wrap a clean rag around two of your fingers. Scoop a quarter teaspoon of petroleum jelly out of the jar with your rag-covered fingers.

    • 3). Rub the petroleum jelly onto the last three inches of your spear shaft. Apply only a thin coat. Wipe off the excess jelly with a dry portion of the rag.

    • 4). Slide a rubber "O" ring three inches past the end of the shaft. Slide the second "O" ring one and a half inches past the end of the shaft. Push the first rubber "O" ring toward the second "O" ring until they touch.

    • 5). Slide the slip tip onto the end of the spear shaft. Gently twist and push the tip over the "O" rings and onto the shaft. Load all of your spear shafts with slip tips. Inspect all of your equipment before departure.
