How to Expand a Concrete Slab

    • 1). Clean the concrete slab that you want to expand using water and a scrub brush. Make sure all debris and dust is removed and rinse thoroughly.

    • 2). Surround the existing concrete slab with form boards. The frame should be as large as you want the slab to be expanded, both on the sides and the top. Nail the form boards together to complete the frame.

    • 3). Mix together one part Portland cement and 2.5 parts sand in a wheelbarrow. Pour water in slowly and mix as you pour. Add the amount of water recommended by the concrete manufacturer or enough to get the cement mixture to the consistency of paste, but not too creamy.

    • 4). Wet the concrete slab slightly, and brush on a liquid bonding agent right before you add the new cement.

    • 5). Pour the cement over the concrete slab and within the form board frame. Continue pouring the cement until the form is filled.

    • 6). Tap the sides of the form with a hammer to settle the cement. Add more if necessary. Then smooth the top with a long board. Once it's cured, you can remove the form boards, and your concrete slab will be expanded upward and on the sides.
