How to Install Insulation in the Wall

    • 1). Measure the length of the wall studs.

    • 2). Lay a tape measure out on the floor, longer than the measurement. Unroll your fiberglass insulation next to it, for the whole length.

    • 3). Turn the insulation over, putting the paper side up. Set a carpenter's square across it at the correct measurement, according to the tape measure. Compress the square, so you can cut through the paper and the thick fiberglass under it all at once. Make the cut along the square with your razor knife.

    • 4). Hold the cut insulation up to the wall, pressing it into the space between two of the wall studs. Position it so the paper side faces into the room and the bare fiberglass side faces the outer wall.

    • 5). Staple the piece in place by shooting the staples up and down the edges, through the thick tabs along the perimeter of the insulation and into the studs. Affix the paper to the sides of the studs, near the outer edge. Put the staples about every foot up the length.

    • 6). Repeat for every pair of studs, so each of the spaces is filled. Use the razor knife to cut away the insulation around any electrical boxes or other obstructions. The wall is ready for drywalling.
